The McMaster ophthalmology program gives residents a broad comprehensive ophthalmology background and opportunities to gain experience in the different subspecialties. This is supported by a dedicated, outstanding faculty who teach, mentor and form lasting relationships with residents in our enhanced tertiary training and referral centre for ophthalmology within the Hamilton region. The faculty offers expertise in most areas of specialization and research in ophthalmology. With increasing focus on research, the program creates opportunities with dedicated protected time to develop independent and/or collaborative research projects of special interests in basic science, clinical and public health ophthalmology within McMaster, Canada and internationally.

Research

McMaster ophthalmology holds research as a pillar of our program and practice, emphasizing research in our residency program and striving for excellence at all levels in research. We develop and advance new techniques to find more effective solutions in clinical care, all while following best existing practices.

Clinical

We provide ophthalmic service to adults at the Community Health Centre in Stoney Creek and to children at the McMaster University Medical Centre. All of the subspecialty areas of ophthalmology are represented. We have shown substantial growth in the last five years. We are committed to teaching and have a spectrum of programs aimed at undergraduate medical students, residents and fellows.
