Naomi Downer
Naomi (she/her) graduated from McMaster University with a BA in communications and a minor in history, and has worked in an educational setting for over 11 years. She has experience in public relations and communications, having worked with and represented several international organizations. Naomi has a passion for education and contributing to a positive, inclusive and efficient work environment. Once an international student herself, Naomi is proud to be part of a program at McMaster that includes professionals from all around the world!
Coordinator Responsibilities:
- Coordinates the scheduling of all Surgical Foundations (SF) events
- Gathers and arranges for dissemination of teaching materials for SF sessions/events
- Encourages communication and maintains positive, professional relationships with faculty and residents
- Plans and organizes anatomy and technical skills events
- With the help of Centre for Simulation-Based Learning (CSBL) staff and Anatomy Lab staff
- Attends sessions to ensure events run smoothly and troubleshoots any problems/answers questions
- Obtains feedback on sessions and helps assist in clean-up after the event, in conjunction with staff
- Coordinates procurement of supplies through hospital stores, purchasing department, industry partners, etc.
- Arranges for cleaning and reliable return of equipment to sources
- Tracks attendance, prepares attendance reports and sends attendance reports to SF director, program directors and residents, as well as attending any attendance related enquiries
- Provides residents with quarterly report indicating SF attendance and quiz grade marks
- Maintains resident score database and learners file folders, both physical and electronic
- Coordinates committee meetings, attends meetings, takes minutes and distributes findings for:
- SF Competence Committee
- SF Resident Program Committee
- Tracks resident evaluations and advises residents of progress
- Sending at minimum two formal letters with progress to each resident per academic year
- Collates results of resident evaluations for feedback to presenters/preceptors
- Inputs information on electronic resume for each presenter/preceptor
- Provides official thank-you letter with resident feedback
- Maintain SF website
