Fellowship

Welcome to the McMaster orthopaedic fellowship program, known to many as MacOrtho. Our fellowship program’s goal is to turn orthopedic surgeons into leaders in their field, outstanding surgeons, researchers and educators. We have nine fellowship programs, including lower extremity reconstruction/hip and knee arthroplasty, trauma, sports, upper extremity, pediatrics, oncologyfoot and ankle, spine and orthopedic research. Our spine program is cross appointed with the division of neurosurgery and our upper extremity program involves rotations with the division of plastic surgery for those interested.

The Hamilton region has four major hospitals, each offering their own sub specialized care. Fellows are welcomed at all sites and around the region at some of our satellite locations. Each program has a dedicated fellowship lead, who will guide you through your experience. Each fellowship can be individualized to meet the needs of the fellows. The MacOrtho program offers a diverse clinical experience within a close knit community.

Our trauma program offers unique combinations of areas such as Trauma-Recon, Trauma-Foot and Ankle, Trauma-Upper Extremity, Trauma-Sports, Community Trauma and High Energy Trauma. Our goal is to give all our fellows the opportunities they are specifically looking for.

Our program accepts fellows from across Canada, as well as international fellows.

Fellows will have the opportunity to partake in a broad spectrum of surgical cases, have the opportunity to teach residents, medical students, be involved in research, curriculum development and all facets of medical education.

We thank you for considering our program to continuing your training with us. Please feel free to review our fellowship websites from each subspecialty to help you choose appropriately. We are happy to answer any questions you may have.
