Financial Health Project
Financial Health Bulletin
The Department of Surgery Financial Health Project began in 2014 as funding pressures were anticipated secondary to both increased costs and decreased funding sources. Last spring and summer, Dr. Reid met with each division to introduce the Financial Health Project and the work to date of the committee. Faculty feedback supported the creation of an expanded Financial Health committee with elected members and improved communications regarding financial issues of the department.
Transfers to McMaster University from the Ministries of Health and Education have been stagnant with no inflationary increases. The most recent and visible pressures are in the budgets that support our Education portfolio as academic funding from Pool C and IMG training positions has significantly decreased affecting the funding of the postgraduate training programs while new costs due to Competency-Based Medical Education (CBME) and simulation are increasing.
