In order to expose our faculty and learners to innovators in the field, a speaker series entitled Visiting Professor Leadership Series has been implemented. Presented as an addendum to our Grand Rounds Lectures, this series will host orthopedic leaders globally with the goal of learning about their leadership journey.
February 2015 Speaker
Dr. Peter Giannoudis
Dr. Peter Giannoudis is a professor at the University of Leeds and an honorary consultant at Leeds General Infirmary (LGI), a major teaching hospital serving a population in the region of 3.5 million. He has served as the president of the British Trauma Society (2006 – 09) and the president of the European Society of Pelvis and Acetabulum, (2008 – 11). Currently, he is the editor-in-chief of the Injury Journal and Chair of the International Committee of the Orthopaedic Trauma Association. Dr. Giannoudis has published over 450 peer review papers and has written seven orthopedic and trauma textbooks, as well as given over 250 invited national and international guest lectures and keynote lectures since 2004.
Dr. Giannoudis’s research interest focuses on the immune-inflammatory response following accidental and surgical trauma, biology of mesenchymal stem cells, bone regeneration, bioengineering and clinical outcomes following fracture fixation.

Dr. Charles Rockwood
MD, professor and chairman emeritus, Orthopaedic Department, director, Shoulder Service, University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio – UT Health San Antonio, University of Oklahoma School of Medicine

Dr. Rockwood has limited his private practice to the study and treatment of shoulder problems for the past 30 years. He worked closely with DePuy Orthopaedics in the development of the Global TM Shoulder Arthroplasty System and a post-operative home-based exercise rehabilitation program for the shoulder. He led his team of investigators in developing a second prosthesis with DePuy specifically designed to treat fractures of the shoulder. Although he has discontinued his surgical practice, he continues to see patients in clinic and as a consultant, lending his expertise to other orthopedic surgeons throughout the country. Dr. Rockwood has authored numerous journal articles and audiovisual presentations and has served as editor of several textbooks.

Dr. Thomas Einhorn

Thomas A. Einhorn is chairman of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and professor of orthopedic surgery, biochemistry and biomedical engineering at Boston University. A graduate of Rutgers University and Cornell Medical College, he completed his internship at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, orthopedic residency at St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital in New York City and a fellowship at the Hospital for Special Surgery. His professional interests include research on the repair and regeneration of bone and cartilage, reconstructive surgery of the hip and knee and the treatment of metabolic bone disease.

Dr. Wayne Paprosky

He is a pioneer and an innovator. He is credited for being one of the first surgeons to perform total hip surgeries with cementless implants and for developing the Paprosky Classification used worldwide when performing revision surgery. Dr. Paprosky spoke about his life experiences and shared his insights on patient care, mentorship and challenging the status quo.
